“Dembski’s latest work is brilliant! Some Critics rank it with the works of CS Lewis and Francis Schaeffer. And rightly so!”

“Rooms is an extraordinary read. It’s a time- and mind-bending exploration of regret and redemption, expertly crafted by a new and talented author. Part The Screwtape Letters, part The Shack, and all James Rubart’s fresh, authoritative voice, Rooms manages to at once entertain and stir thoughts about how our temporal decisions affect us for eternity.”

“Caroll knows what suspense readers want: brave characters in exciting occupations, nonstop action, political intrigue and a dose of romance for that added zing. Even when readers figure out the villain, they will stay riveted to their seats as the plot unfolds.”

In this well-written, fast paced romance with strong Christian themes, we meet Brannon Callahan, a search and rescue helicopter pilot who works in the Great Smoky Mountains national park in Tennessee.  Brannon is a beautiful, competent woman who has come to this point in her life with some losses and pain.  One stormy night a helicopter carrying a U.S. Marshal transporting a donor heart to a man holding the key information to breaking up a child slavery ring crashes in her park.  She mobilizes with her team to rescue them, not knowing that the rescue will become complex and difficult.
Roark Holland is the U.S. Marshal on the helicopter.  Devoted to his work, he is haunted by a past case in which a child lost her life.  He has moved away from spirituality and in the beginning of the book, is pessimistic and unhappy.  When the helicopter crashes he is shocked to find that the pilot of the rescue is female.  Brannon knows there is a much more complex problem occurring when she and her team are shot down as they try and rescue Roark and the heart.  They have to hike out of the wilderness.
Interwoven with the chapters about Brannon and Roark is the realistic story of the Asian teens who are being held as part of the human slave trade.  As the truth comes closer to being revealed it is nearly impossible to put this book down!
Readers will love this novel for many reasons.  It is a top-notch romantic suspense with building attraction between Brannon and Roark, the inspirational aspects of the story are neatly integrated into the plot, and the writing is superb.  My one question for this author involves Brannon’s fellow ranger and dear friend, Lincoln.  Will the next book be his story?  I hope the answer is yes.

“Good fiction usually has an element of truth, and you find yourself pulling for the two fictional girls in the novel, not just because they’re the victims, but because you know they represent tens of thousands of real life Mias and Kanyas hidden somewhere in this country.

As Christians, we read novels on an additional level, much in the same way we view every aspect of life. We see something much larger, expanding out and beyond our tiny slice of reality. God speaks to us through more than a Sunday sermon or morning devotionals. He speaks through the natural world, through a song, a hurting child.
In this case, he spoke through an author. Aren’t we glad she listened and responded with this outstanding work.”

Merida encourages the reader to contend for the gospel. There are many who seek to pervert the truth of the Word of God and it is the job of the preacher to contend against these things through clear, specific, well informed, and apologetic preaching of the Word.

So much more could be said, and while no book is perfect, I think Tony Merida did well to write this book in the way he wants us to preach: clearly, boldly, faithfully!  I heartily recommend those interested in fine tuning their preaching to not hesitate in picking up a copy of Faithful Preaching.

The tension between faith and science is a long-standing one, captured by the apocryphal story of Catholic academics refusing to view the heavens through Galileo’s telescope. The field of Christian education stands athwart the two, one foot firmly planted in Scripture, and the other in theories of learning, motivation, and personality. Estep and Kim provide thoroughly biblical perspectives in the synergism of theological and theoretical truth (revelation and creation) as they lead us to pursue practical, effective Christian formation in our homes, churches, and schools.
